“ErgAxia” is a service for the work inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disorders and autistic spectrum disorders It has been operating since 1997 and to this day has placed 205 people in the open labour market.
Ιt was established with the purpose of meeting every individual’s fundamental right to be employed and to facilitate the elimination of the exclusion of people with disabilities from the labour market.
The vocational rehabilitation model that has been implemented in recent years, with visibly successful results, the“Supported Employment” defined as: “Providing support to people with disabilities or other vulnerable groups, in order to ensure and maintain paid work in the open labor market”.(EUSE 2005).
It is a model with a person -centered approach that is adapted to the needs of each individual and is fully in line with the concepts of responsibility, social inclusion, dignity and respect for human beings. According to international statistics, supported employment is an effective way of intervening in order for people with disabilities not only to reserve an occupation, but also to maintain it in the long run. Through adapted intervention, we shall ensure the steady work inclusion.
For the implementation of this model, “ErgAxia” uses the “Toolkit” feature, which wascreated under the Leonardo program “EUSE Supported Work Toolkit”. In addition, ErgAxia engaging in activities, such as “Working Together” and “Career for All”, related to raising awareness and familiarizing businesses and the community with the potential of people with disabilities in the workplace.
In conclusion, the purpose of “ErgAxia” is to support the youth to find job they desire and maintain it longterm.
